Center For Accessible Living

The web site, CFAL, was established to provide resources for all disabled Kentucky citizens to get information and assistance. Established in 1981 the Louisville Center for Accessible Living is a non-profit organization, governed by people with disabilities, whose mission is to provide information, advocacy and services that create opportunities for people with disabilities to live independently.

Kentucky School for the Deaf

Founded in 1823 as the first state-supported school for the deaf in the United States. This residential school is dedicated to providing quality education to Kentucky's deaf and hard of hearing students age 6-21. Students residing nearby attend classes as day students.

Kentucky - Hearing Loss Association of America (formerly Self Help for Hard of Hearing People)

The Derbytown chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (formerly Self Help for Hard of Hearing People) is an affiliate member of the national Hearing Loss Association of America. This website offers information on hearing loss, links for related sites, a chat room, monthly newsletters for both the state and the Derbytown chapter. While many Hearing Loss Association of America members across the state are not affiliated with a local group, all a part of the same organization!

KyRID is the Kentucky state chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. KyRID is the professional organization for the interpreters and transliterators for the Deaf, at the local level. KyRID has members across the state of Kentucky, which you may have seen interpreting on political grandstands, in churches, in schools, on television, in courtrooms, in hospitals, in theaters, and any place where communication is vital.

Kentucky Association of the Deaf

The Kentucky Association of the Deaf (KAD) is an affiliate member of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD). NAD was founded in 1880 and is the oldest and largest organization of the deaf in the United States with more than 22,000 members. The NAD along with other 50 state associations of the deaf and KAD work to improve the lifestyle and opportunities of the deaf and hard of hearing people.

Hearing Loss Association of America (formerly Self Help for Hard of Hearing People) is the nation's largest consumer organization dedicated to sharing information, support and advocacy on behalf of those who do not hear well. Through local volunteer groups and a national advocacy presence, the Hearing Loss Association of America's mission is to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss.

Gallaudet University

Gallaudet is an accredited liberal arts university for the deaf. The undergraduate university provides programs leading to B.A. or B.S. degrees. The graduate program offers degrees through Ph.D. and is open to deaf and hearing persons.

National Technical Institute for the Deaf

NTID, one of the seven colleges of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), is the world's first and largest technological college for deaf students. NTID represents the first concerted effort to educate large numbers of deaf students within a college campus planned principally for hearing students.
