"Moore Safe Nights" - A Virginia Moore Legacy Project
The Moore Safe Nights Project currently has around 700 NOAA Weather Radios to distribute on a first come, first served basis. We are not sure how quickly they will run out, so please submit your application as soon as possible.
Once your application is received and processed, you will receive a letter from KCDHH letting you know when and where to pick up your equipment in your area.
KYEM and KCDHH will continue to seek funding to maintain this project so all deaf and hard of hearing Kentuckians can stay weather aware.
This equipment is just one way to help keep you safe. We encourage you to stay alert and keep yourself informed when bad weather has been predicted or conditions are favorable. There are many ways you can do this, including:
Weather Notification Apps
There are many free weather notification apps available for Android and iPhones. Visit your App store and search for "weather notification apps."
Weather Websites
The National Weather Service (NWS) provides official weather alerts, forecasts and radar images. They also have a page dedicated to weather safety information specifically for Deaf and Hard of Hearing that has useful information as well as captioned ASL videos that explain what to do in different weather situations. You can find many other helpful websites by doing a search for "weather safety."
Social Media
Follow weather-related pages on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for real-time updates.
We also highly recommend that you make an Emergency Plan and prepare an Emergency Kit. Being prepared can save precious time, help keep you safe and make things a little less stressful if you experience a weather emergency. Search the web for "ASL Emergency Preparedness videos" and you will find many captioned ASL videos that will explain exactly how to do this.
