Due to popular demand, ASL Connect now offers transferable credits through Gallaudet University!
ASL Connect courses are offered for non-degree credit. The courses are open to anyone who is qualified to do college-level work. Adults with a high school diploma or its equivalent and visiting students from other colleges may enroll in ASL Connect courses.
Zac Childers is the clinical specialist providing counseling services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals by direct communication using American Sign Language at New Vista. Zac began learning American Sign Language (ASL) at Eastern Kentucky University, where he was exposed to many deaf and hard of hearing people. After completing the interpreting program, Zac knew that he wanted to help the deaf and hard of hearing communities in a unique way by providing counseling services using ASL in direct communication with this specific population. He received his BS from Eastern Kentucky University from the Interpreter Training Program and his MSW from EKU, as well. Zac went on to earn his national certification for interpreting from RID and holds a NIC and full Kentucky license as an interpreter since 2009. In 2024, Zac began providing counseling services at New Vista’s office in Boyle County but serves the entire region. Zac has held many roles in the interpreting field, including vice president of KY-RID.
New Vista serves children and adults in 17 Central Kentucky counties with services in mental health, substance use, intellectual and developmental disabilities and primary care. Individuals and families receive services at the most convenient location for them. New Vista has four anchor centers that provide a full range of services in Boyle, Fayette, Madison and Scott counties. The anchor centers are surrounded by satellite offices in neighboring counties.

The 2024 Interpreting for Deaf Professionals Summit will be an action-packed virtual summit where interpreters can earn up to .95 CEUs. Sessions will range from interactive presentations to armchair discussions and are designed to help interpreters consider what has worked—and what hasn’t—for Deaf, hard of hearing, and DeafBlind professionals in a variety of sectors; and to optimize the delivery of interpreting services to these professionals.
This will be a virtual summit held on September 13-14, 2024.
